FORT ANN — State officials confirmed Saturday recent archaeological surveys found no evidence of a battle at the site of a proposed mine on Battle Hill, throwing the actual location of the Revolutionary War skirmish in question. Gino Vona, owner of Big Boy Construction, wants to develop a 50-acre mine with Troy Topsoil on his 160-acre parcel atop the mound where English forces met scattered Continental units that were fleeing Fort Ticonderoga on July 8, 1777. In a poll of 6,000 drivers, 90 percent of people agreed that distracted driving is a safety issue. But folks are still doing it. When it comes to accidents or near-accidents, drivers ages 18 to 20 are three times more likely to report texting or emailing when the accident occurred, according to the survey by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Overall, drivers younger than 25 are two to three times more likely to text or email while driving. Early results arrive for Energized Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Get Energized Iowa, a consortium of four towns competing to reduce electricity usage in 2012, recently tallied surveys completed by residents. The top percentage came from Dike, which submitted 161 surveys, meaning 32 percent of residential electrical customers filled out the form. The Wapsie Valley team, composed of residents in Fairbank and Readlyn, turned in surveys from 27 percent of their municipal utilities. Of those, 150 surveys were from Fairbank and 83 from Readlyn. Hudson residents returned 93 surveys or 12 percent of its residential utility customers. The survey asked residents about their knowledge of home energy and how they use electricity.
