Businesses make high school girl’s wish for a muscle car come true

Vanessa Cazares flashed a huge smile and fought back tears as the local chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation made her wish come true Saturday. The 17-year-old Centennial High School senior — who suffers from a congenital heart defect — received a complete makeover of her 1967 Ford Mustang coupe, courtesy of Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Southern Nevada chapter and its partners. Since the local chapter was founded in 1996, the foundation has granted wishes to more than 1,200 Las Vegas-area children suffering from life-threatening conditions to provide hope, strength and joy to sick children and their families. Southport businesses still shocked by high electric bills

I moved here from Atlanta and my bills were never this high, said Rebekah Page, owner of the Sole Searching shoe store on Howe Street. Her summertime bills range from $220 to $330 a month for a 780-square-foot store. She said she never got a bill for more than $200 in her Wilmington store that was twice the size. Coachmans Park artwork given the final touches

PENRITH Council finalised design plans for the Coachmans Park upgrade at a meeting on Tuesday night. Penrith Mayor Greg Davies said work on the project could start next February as planned after the tender process was finished. Minor changes made to the proposal at the meeting included changes to the parks bitumen surface, with colour design work to be incorporated. Surveys call into question location of fighting on Fort Ann’s Battle Hill

FORT ANN — State officials confirmed Saturday recent archaeological surveys found no evidence of a battle at the site of a proposed mine on Battle Hill, throwing the actual location of the Revolutionary War skirmish in question. Gino Vona, owner of Big Boy Construction, wants to develop a 50-acre mine with Troy Topsoil on his 160-acre parcel atop the mound where English forces met scattered Continental units that were fleeing Fort Ticonderoga on July 8, 1777. Myron Pitts Recent surveys of driving habits have focused on younger drivers and older drivers, and your friendly neighborhood Behind The Wheel has the results. First, the young folks. In a poll of 6,000 drivers, 90 percent of people agreed that distracted driving is a safety issue. But folks are still doing it. When it comes to accidents or near-accidents, drivers ages 18 to 20 are three times more likely to report texting or emailing when the accident occurred, according to the survey by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Teen’s artwork to hang in Reed’s office

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – U.S. Senator Jack Reed announced the winner Friday of the 2012 annual High School Arts Competition. For the second year in a row, Miri Kim, a senior at Chariho Regional High School took first place with her acrylic painting “Hope”.  Her painting depicts boats that have docked in the port of Galilee. The artwork will be framed and hung in Senator Reed’s office in Washington D.C. Salvaged Banksy artwork goes on display in Detroit

A piece of street art salvaged from the industrial ruins of Detroit makes its first public appearance in two years in a jail-turned-art gallery.
