Cool Stuff: ‘Notebook Nerd,’ Ballpoint Pen Artwork By Jim Rugg

Who hasnt sat in a classroom with their notebook open, doodling away with a pen, dreaming they could one day sell those drawings as art? Comic book artist Jim Rugg has gone ahead and made that dream a reality. The artist behind indie titles Street Angel and Afrodisiac has an upcoming art show in Los Angeles featuring nothing but ballpoint drawings on spiral notebook paper. However, from that image above, you can tell these arent your typical notebook doodles. Theyre beautiful pieces of one-of-a-kind art, many of which are pop culture themed. London’s latest Banksy: artwork springs up overnight on side of Turnpike Lane …

Residents in Whymark Avenue, near Turnpike Lane, woke up to discover the trademark artwork painted on the side of the local Poundland. The store has been at the centre of controversy after it was revealed two years ago that a seven-year-old boy worked more 100 hours a week in an Indian sweatshop to produce some of its goods. The company severed ties with the supplier and issued a statement saying it “did not tolerate child labour under any circumstances”. The latest Banksy image depicts a young boy crouched over a sewing machine. The Jubilee-themed artwork has Union flag bunting similar to that sold in the store hung across the image. NYLO South Side will feature local artwork as hotel décor

DALLAS #151; NYLO is a familiar hotel name in the DFW area when it comes to cool factor, but this summer when it opens its newest addition, Nylo Dallas South Side, more than 50 Dallas-Fort Worth artists will add to that cool factor. The hotel hosted a contest to find local artists who could create works for the hotel’s interior, and winners were given cash prices from $150 to $2,000. More than 150 artists submitted more than 400 pieces of artwork. The winning pieces – 150 in all – will be displayed in the hotel guest rooms, corridors, and lobby. Healing Through Artwork

To recognize Child Abuse Awareness Month, The Salvation Army Anew Centers Children and Family Outreach Program hosted an art show in the Fellowship Hall on South Main Street in Jamestown on Friday. The event allowed the programs counseling participants, most of whom are between ages 5 and 12, to display the artwork they created individually and with their families during the past several months. CFOP individual and group counseling participants, who have experienced some sort of domestic violence or child abuse, created the art. CFOP strives to provide a safe place for children to express the abuse theyve been through and increase their self-esteem. Coachmans Park artwork given the final touches

PENRITH Council finalised design plans for the Coachmans Park upgrade at a meeting on Tuesday night. Penrith Mayor Greg Davies said work on the project could start next February as planned after the tender process was finished. Minor changes made to the proposal at the meeting included changes to the parks bitumen surface, with colour design work to be incorporated. It was decided that a street-art expert design the artwork for the corner of Queen St. Cr Davies said the artwork would be a major feature of the $1.1 million redevelopment of the park. It will reflect in art form the history of the place with coach building and the coach history of the town, he said. Teen’s artwork to hang in Reed’s office

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – U.S. Senator Jack Reed announced the winner Friday of the 2012 annual High School Arts Competition. For the second year in a row, Miri Kim, a senior at Chariho Regional High School took first place with her acrylic painting “Hope”.  Her painting depicts boats that have docked in the port of Galilee. The artwork will be framed and hung in Senator Reed’s office in Washington D.C. It will be displayed for one year, to honor Kim’s accomplishments and to celebrate the artistic talents of Rhode Island. The second place winner, Sandra Lopez, is a junior at Cranston East High School. In brief: City seeks artwork depicting City Park

The city of Fort Collins Art in Public Places Program is seeking artwork that depicts present-day City Park that will be used to promote the 100th anniversary of the park and related celebrations. Residents who live or attend school within the Fort Collins growth management area are invited to participate. Individuals can submit one piece of artwork. Original designs must be image-based in any media, including photography, painting, drawing and collages. The selected artwork will be reproduced and used to publicize and commemorate the 100th anniversary. Artwork will be reviewed in two age categories: 17 years and younger and 18 years and older. Salvaged Banksy artwork goes on display in Detroit

A piece of street art salvaged from the industrial ruins of Detroit makes its first public appearance in two years in a jail-turned-art gallery. The mural, believed to be the work of the elusive street artist Banksy, shows a boy with a paintbrush and can next to the words, I remember when all this was trees. The artworks original home was on the wall of an old auto plant thats since been pulled apart. On Friday, after a legal dispute that began in 2010, the piece will be on display at a former Detroit police station thats been converted into an art studio and gallery.
